Standard Cell Aramid Honeycomb

Available in .060", .125", .250" and .500" thicknesses

  Aramid Honeycomb is a lightweight, high strength, nonmetallic honeycomb manufactured from aramid fiber paper. After the honeycomb is formed, it is coated with a heat resistant phenolic resin to increase its strength. The core material exhibits high strength to weight ratio, low density, good thermal insulation and is very bondable. Aramid fiber honeycomb is used as the core material in composite panels. These panels “sandwich” honeycomb between two “skins” which can be metal, carbon fiber, fiberglass, or any other thin yet strong material. Once these skins have been bonded to either side of the honeycomb, the resulting composite structure has extremely high strength-to-weight and rigidity-to-weight ratios. Aramid honeycomb is becoming increasingly used in high-performance non-aerospace components due to its high mechanical properties, low density and good long-term stability. The Standard Cell honeycomb is manufactured with the typical hexangular cell shape. It is best suited for flat panel applications or those which the core needs to conform to a slight curvature (i.e. a guitar back).

Flexible Cell Aramid Honeycomb

Available in .125" and .250" thicknesses

Flexible cell Aramid Honeycomb has a rectangular cell shape, thereby allowing the core to flex in one direction easily. It is idealy suited for structures having tight radius curves. It can be rolled for shipping.

Spyder Foam

Available in  5.5" thicknesses
 
A new product developed expressly for composite construction, Spyder foam has 2X the compressional strength of blue foam (approx 60 psi.) and greater shear strength. Spyder foam's unique design incorporates a fine cell structure that is alinged perpendicular to the wing surface, creating a ridge honeycomb effect. The vertical cell alignment allows for better penetration of the EZ-LAM epoxy resin into the foam's surface thereby enhancing the bond and the shear strength between the foam and the wing skin.
 
Spyder foam weighs about 10% more than blue foam, but due to it's higher strength, lighter laminates can be used for wing skins resulting in a lighter and stiffer wing . Spyder foam can be cut with a hot wire in the same manner as blue foam.

Aero-Mat

Available in 50" width

A flexible honeycomb foam mat, used to add structure and thickness to composite laminates. Unlike standard cell honeycomb, "Lansor Soric XF" AERO-MAT is very flexible and will conform to compound shapes. Soric is a polyester nonwoven material with a compression resistant hexagonal cell structure. Ideally suited for reinforcing curved laminations where additional stiffness is needed. The cells do not absorb resin and therefore, limit the total resin up-take. Since these cells are pressure resistant, they create thickness in the laminate even when pressure is applied by vaccum bag. The channels facilitate resin flow and form a pattern of cured resin with good mechanical properties and excellent bonding to the outer skins.

Aero-Vail

A lightweight non-woven fabric of synthetic fibers specifically designed to improve the aesthetic qualties of wet lay-up laminates. It has excellent formability and drape. Wets out evenly and will add little to the laminate's thickness.
