Mats

CARBON MAT (MC)

ACP's carbon mat is an advanced nonwoven carbon fiber mat incorporating 100% carbon fibers (approx. 1" in length) bonded together in a random fiber matrix. Carbon mat is compatible with all epoxy and polyester resin systems. It is especially useful for reinforcement of ribs, bulkheads, corner joints and wing center sections. When reinforcing a wing center section, it is recommended that the carbon mat (.5 Oz.) be used under 1.4 Oz. glass in lieu of reinforcing the center section with 4 Oz. glass alone. This will result in a lighter but stiffer structure.

Kevlar® MAT (MK)

The Kevlar® mat is manufactured in a similar fashion and is compatible with all epoxy and polyester resins. While carbon mat is used to increase stiffness, Kevlar® mat is used to increase impact resistance and toughness. Use of Kevlar® mat is recommended for the lower sections of slope soarer fuselages, nose cones, wing tips, and tail booms.

Neither the carbon nor Kevlar® mat should be used alone as a surface finishing material, since it has a tendency to fuzz when the epoxy is applied with a brush. We recommend bonding .58 Oz. or .73 Oz. glass over the carbon or Kevlar® mat with EZ-LAM epoxy resin to obtain a very stiff and durable surface finish.

AERO VAIL (MV)

A lightweight non-woven fabric of synthetic fibers specifically designed to improve the aesthetic qualties of wet lay-up laminates. It has excellent formability and drape. Wets out evenly and will add little to the laminate's thickness.

Aeromat is used to add thiickness to composite laminates.

AERO-MAT

A honeycomb foam mat, used to add thickness to composite laminates. Unlike Nomex honeycomb, AERO-MAT is very flexible and will conform to compound shapes. Ideally suited for reinforcing epoxy fuselages where additional stiffness is needed.
